Snowy Mountain - Australia from totally another perspective!
Fresh, crisp mountain air, beautiful alpine villages, and fun things to see and do - a winter trip to the Snowy Mountains was a exhilarating experience for me during my mid holiday last year (July 2016).
The Alpine Way is an absolutely beautiful drive which you can take from Jindabyne. There are tall timbers, great viewing points, some good walks and a couple of campgrounds to stop at for a break. We saw lots of wildlife along the way. We went as far as Olsens Lookout which is a 10km detour off the main road just beyond Geehi. I would recommend the detour on a clear day as the view of the back side of the range is wonderful. We also went Mount Kosciusko using a express chairlift to the top of Australia’s tallest mountain which gives a amazing views of Thredbo and Kosciuszko National Park. From there we had to walk around 6km to go to the peak of the mountain.
On the way out we stopped at all the camping/picnic areas for a stretch and walk and on the way back we stopped at Thredbo for a coffee.

Best time in my opinion is to go during June to October each year, with peak season being late July and August.
